Rahwana Amare is a current first year resident physician at MedStar Health/Georgetown University Hospital-National Rehabilitation Hospital Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Training Program. After completing her medical degree in 2021 at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, she is ecstatic to resume her training back in her hometown of Washington D.C. Prior to pursuing medicine, she completed her undergraduate career at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. She graduated in May 2013 with a major in neurobiology and a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies. After completing her degree at Georgetown, she completed a three-year post-baccalaureate program at the University of Maryland College Park in preparation for medical school.
Rahwana has demonstrated her commitment to serving underserved populations in both her undergraduate and medical education studies. She has served as a case manager for the Urban Health Initiative at Howard University Hospital where she provided comprehensive services to black & brown patients suffering from opiate addiction. As a result of her experiences to date, Rahwana hopes to foster an environment of inclusivity and community service into her practice with a keen interest and focus on patients in need of neuro-rehabilitation services.
Rahwana is passionate about building rapport with her patients. It is her belief that the foundation of good patient care is rooted in empathic listening and striving to understand patients. Given her vast worldly experience, Rahwana enjoys engaging with people from various cultural, ethnic, and other diverse backgrounds. She believes that effective communication and an inviting spirit gives patients the space they need to relay their stories.
